VARGATES Medical: a clinical case becomes a course lesson
A lesson in a VARGATES Medical course can now be a clinical case: the student works through it in their own cabinet and is scored on the decisions they take, and the course author adds such a lesson straight from the course curriculum.
VARGATES Medical is a medical education platform at medical.vargates.com, developed by DreamLight Labs. On 25 September 2026 the team completed two related changes, and both now work on the platform.
The case is played in the cabinet
A clinical case is a graph of decisions: at each step the student chooses what to do next, and the score depends on the decisions taken. Until now the cabinet player did not play a lesson of this kind — it showed a notice that the kind was not yet supported. Now the case opens in the same place as the course's reading and quizzes.
A case written into the lesson itself is played through to the end; the server then scores it, and the player shows the score, the number of correct decisions and the pass mark. Such a lesson has no complete button: it is completed by its grade.
A case from the platform's scenario library is played step by step, and the lesson is completed from the outcome of the run. The player shows what the server answered: the lesson is completed, the run was not accepted, or the request did not get through. Previously that answer was lost.
If a lesson names neither a scenario nor a graph that can be played, the student sees a notice that the scenario is unavailable.
The author adds a case from the curriculum
In the course curriculum builder, adding a lesson now starts with choosing its kind. For the Scenario kind the platform offers the published scenarios by title and version; if no lesson title is typed, the lesson takes the scenario's title. Editing such a lesson opens the scenario editor.
The platform will not save a scenario lesson a student could not play. A case written into the lesson itself must start with a situation that offers a choice, every option in it must lead to a node of the graph, and the passing score must be between 0 and 100. For a scenario from the library, the chosen version must belong to that very scenario and to the author's organisation.
