The Challenge
Building multiplayer VR training for industrial clients exposed a recurring gap: off-the-shelf engines provided rendering, but not the real-time networking, scenario scripting, and analytics a production training product required. Every new project meant rebuilding the same infrastructure from scratch — multiplayer sync, session management, competency tracking, LMS export. The brief: build a reusable framework that lets us ship reliable interactive training products without starting from zero each time.
Our Approach
Vargates sits above the rendering layer and provides everything a training or simulation product needs as composable primitives: real-time multiplayer networking, a scenario scripting system, VR interaction primitives, and a data layer that captures exactly what each user did and how they performed. The framework is engine-agnostic — it has been deployed on top of Unity, Unreal, and custom renderers depending on the hardware target.
Deliverables
- Real-time multiplayer infrastructure for up to hundreds of concurrent users
- VR-native interaction layer (Quest, Pico, PC-tethered)
- Scriptable scenario system for training and simulation workflows
- Analytics layer capturing user behavior, competency metrics, and session data
Outcomes
Vargates now underpins three active training products in industrial safety, medical simulation, and educational environments. New product development time dropped significantly compared to building on raw Unity or Unreal without the shared infrastructure. Deployed scenarios support 100+ concurrent users in managed training sessions. The analytics layer feeds learning management systems at multiple enterprise clients, enabling training managers to track competency across distributed workforces.
